RANGI: Evolving Internet Routing Architecture from Present to the Next Generation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a clean slate design for the next generation Internet architecture that allows natural sharing of resources among multiple organizations. Our architecture consists of a 3-tier object model. The bottom tier consists of the network infrastructure owned by multiple Internet service providers. The second tier consists of hosts that may be owned by different organizations. The third tier consists of users and data objects. This results in a three tiered virtualization model as compared to the traditional single-tier infrastructure virtualization. In today’s Internet the infrastructure, the hosts, and users belong to different organizations (as in cloud computing) but are not correctly represented in the architecture resulting in several issues. We, therefore, propose an incremental architecture strategy that helps solve the problems of scalability, mobility, multihoming and traffic engineering in the current Internet, and allows evolving towards realizing the clean slate architectural goals.

Visualizing Interdomain Routing with BGPlay
In this paper we describe the architecture and the visual interface of BGPlay, an on-line service for the visualization of the behavior and of the instabilities of Internet routing at the autonomous system level. A graph showing only the connections among autonomous systems is not enough to convey all the information needed to fully understand routing and its changes. BGPlay uses specifically t...
متن کاملDagstuhl Seminar on Naming and Addressing for Next Generation Internetworks
The design of naming and addressing for data networks is a fundamental architectural consideration, and several current or anticipated problems in the Internet – including mobility dynamics, forwarding table growth in the core routers, and security – point out possible limitations with naming and addressing schemes in use today. A seminar on the topic of naming and addressing for next generatio...
متن کاملRouting Issues in Interconnecting Ip Networks with the Petaweb
The PetaWeb, proposed for Next Generation Internet (NGI) infrastructures, is an innovative, geographically distributed, high-capacity switch architecture based on recent advances in optical and electronic switching technologies. The PetaWeb supports adaptive capacity allocation between edge modules for connectionless and connection-oriented traffic. This is achieved by the use of a rate-regulat...
متن کاملArchitectures for the future networks and the next generation Internet: A survey
Networking research funding agencies in USA, Europe, Japan, and other countries are encouraging research on revolutionary networking architectures that may or may not be bound by the restrictions of the current TCP/IP based Internet. We present a comprehensive survey of such research projects and activities. The topics covered include various testbeds for experimentations for new architectures,...
متن کاملOASIS: An Overlay Abstraction for Re-architecting Large Scale Internet Group Services
There is an increasing economic desire driven by widespread applications like IPTV or conferencing that a next generation Internet will grant transparent group communication service to all its stationary and mobile users. In this paper, we present a generic approach to inter-domain multicast, which is guided by an abstract, DHT-inspired overlay, but may operate on a future Internet architecture...
